What is Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is a form of natural treatment that uses essential oils from botanical sources (flowers, herbs and aromatic plants) to achieve relaxation and relief from stress and other disorders.

Essential oils abound in active ingredients. Sometimes they are used undiluted, but more often diluted in a variety of fatty carriers. They are usually dispensed externally or sprayed in the ambient air.

In this type of treatment, minute quantities of the essential oils are absorbed into the bloodstream through the skin or the lungs (in inhalation therapy). Their active ingredients interact with the body’s chemistry to counter stress, boost the immune system and help with a host of medical problems. However, aromatherapy does not replace conventional medicine.

The logic behind aromatherapy is based on the different compounds of the essential oils assisting the body by stimulating its own natural healing action.
